Marshall Store Among Those Searched in Illegal Gambling Investigation

A multi-agency operation targeting alleged illegal gambling and money laundering resulted in a search warrant being in executed multiple locations,

A convenience store in Mountain View and another store in Marshall were among those searched. Officers with the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, the Mountain View Police Department, the 16th Judicial Drug Task Force, the Arkansas State Police and Alcoholic Beverage Control served a warrant early Friday afternoon at the Circle K on East Main Street in Mountain View.

According to Stone County Chief Deputy Dammon McGilton, an operation, known as “Operation Short-Changed,” began early last year as agents began working a gambling operation. It later spread to two other counties, resulting in law enforcement from Searcy and White counties participating.

In addition to the stores in Mountain View and Marshall, warrants were also served at two stores and a bait shop in the city of Searcy and a store in the White County community of El Paso. All locations were reportedly hit simultaneously by several jurisdictions.

Deputy McGilton says the case remains under investigation, and other facts will be released at a later time.
