Harrison schools are off to a safe start with few violations in school zones; the police are remaining diligent in addressing illegal drugs in the city.
Harrison Police Chief Chris Graddy and Lieutenant Michael Toland joined KHOZ’s Around The Table on Tuesday. They gave an update on school safety and addressed drug-related crime. “We want to keep reminding people to pay attention to those school bus stops,” Graddy said when discussing school safety. Toland said they have spotted “maybe two or three” cell phone violations in the school zone on Goblin Drive but that it has not been bad. Toland said when it comes to masking in schools, the rules are being followed and there have not been issues. The school district will revisit the mask policy on Sept. 17.
Graddy discussed the city’s drug situation. There were major indictments that helped rid Harrison of drugs. He said new dealers “have trickled back in” but that it is being dealt with. The Department’s Drug Task Force has two officers permanently assigned to that. The drugs consist of mainly meth and heroin. The individual who was dealing heroin was arrested a couple of months ago and charged on state charges.
