According to the probable cause affidavit, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a stabbing in the Flat Woods area of the county. Dispatch advised deputies the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Chelsea Campbell, had left the scene with three small children in the vehicle.

While on route, dispatch notified deputies the victim reportedly went to her neighbor’s residence who is a paramedic and was then transported to the hospital by two family members. At the hospital, deputies observed the victim sustained approximately a six-inch cut near the elbow and under her arm, resembling a defense wound.

During the interview, the victim told deputies she came home to find Campbell in her house with her boyfriend. When she asked Campbell to leave, she allegedly pulled a knife on the victim and stated she would “kill her and burn down her house.”
The next day, Campbell sent a message to the victim stating she was coming over to get some things she left behind. When Campbell arrived, the victim stated she met her in the yard. Campbell then allegedly charged toward the victim where she put her arms up to defend herself, before cutting the victim’s arm.

The victim states her 12-year-old daughter was in the yard with her along with Campbell having her three children in the car with her, watching the incident happen. When the victim’s boyfriend came outside, Campbell ran back to her car and drove off. The victim stated her daughter drove her down to her neighbor’s house, who was a paramedic and wrapped her wound to stop the bleeding. The mother of the victim transported her to the emergency room for treatment.

Deputies received a tip Campbell could be hiding at a residence at Rock Creek. Upon arrival, deputies observed lights on in the residence and through the blinds could see Campbell laying in a bed. When deputies knocked on the door and identified themselves, Campbell jumped up and ran to the back of the house. Authorities went round the house where they made contact with a male who refused to identify himself. Deputies told him they saw Campbell inside the residence and continued to knock on the door. A few moments later, the side door opened and Campbell came outside. She was placed under arrest and read her Miranda rights. Campbell stated she was not willing to talk.

Once Campbell was booked into the Newton County Jail, she stated she wanted to talk. Campbell told deputies she went to the house to pick up some of her stuff. When she arrived, Campbell states the victim ran at her punching her in the face. Campbell said she pulled the knife out of her pants and stabbed the victim. Deputies asked Campbell where the knife was now, and she stated she sold it for gas money. When Campbell was asked where the vehicle she was driving she stated “it was put up” and refused to answer any more questions. Deputies were unable to observe any injuries.

Campbell is facing a Class Y felony charge of 1st degree battery along with three misdemeanor counts of endanger welfare of a minor. She has been released from the Newton County Jail on $50,000 bond and ordered no contact with the victim.
