Fred Berry Conservation Center Hosting Summer Programs

The Fred Berry Conservation Education Center on Crooked Creek in Yellville is hosting summertime programs that are suitable for the whole family.

Each week through the end of July, staff members will host programs from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the education center. Registration is required for the programs, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Fred Berry Conservation Education Center on Crooked Creek is located at 851 Conservation Lane in Yellville. For program reservations, call the center at (870) 449-3484.

On Tuesdays, visitors may participate in Target Tuesdays, where children 6 and older will practice archery and BB gun skills. Target Tuesdays will also occasionally include hatchet throwing as an activity. All equipment will be provided and safety instruction will be part of the program. Upcoming Target Tuesdays are July 6, 13, 20 and 27.

Wednesdays are “Wild Wednesdays” at the Fred Berry Center, and children will be treated to different topics about wildlife or the outdoors each week. Programs typically involve a presentation along with a craft project or other activity. Upcoming Wild Wednesdays subjects include Backyard Habitat on July 7; Black Bears on July 14; Beaver and Their Kin on July 21; and Pollinators on July 28.

Children can break out their fishing gear for Fishing Fridays, where kids are invited to catch catfish from the center’s pond. Participants may use their own fishing equipment and bait, or use items provided by the Fred Berry Center. Fishing Fridays will be held July 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.
