Federal Lawsuit Filed Against Huntsville School District Over Sexual Assault

Federal lawsuit filed against Huntsville School District over sexually assaulted minor.

From KTHS:

A federal lawsuit was filed Friday against Huntsville School District on behalf of the parent of a minor who said they were sexually assaulted at the middle school. According to court documents, the minor said they were sexually assaulted in the locker room by other students between November 2020 and February 2021.

The lawsuit also alleges that the coach of the middle school basketball team was contacted by a parent telling him of "improper sexual activities" in late October 2020. The lawsuit says the coach, who later resigned in 2021, did not tell the middle school principal or superintendent, nor did he report the claim to the Arkansas Child Abuse Hotline. According to the lawsuit, the minor said there were at least 17 students who were victimized by this sexual harassment.

There was a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed against Huntsville School District, School Board. The lawsuit asks for a trial by jury. Huntsville School District Attorney Charles Harwell says the district will make a comment in federal court on the lawsuit when they feel it’s appropriate to do so.
