Federal Authorities looking for Information on Bald Eagle Shootings in Marion County

Federal authorities are seeking information on an incident involving the shooting of four bald eagles in Marion County.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering a reward of up to $5,000 to anyone providing details leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

According to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, the eagles were discovered Feb. 13 outside of Pyatt on Marion County Road 3021. Further investigation by Game and Fish and the Fish and Wildlife Service revealed the eagles were shot between mid-January and mid-February. Authorities also located red-tailed hawks, a domestic dog and a white-tailed deer shot and killed in the area.

Bald eagles are proteccted by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Violations of the statutes carry maximum penalties of a $250,000 fine and a two-year federal prison sentence.
