Baseball, Softball Update: Arkansas Regionals Wrap-Up, Missouri Districts Underway

Several Teams have punched tickets to State Tournaments in Arkansas while that process is getting underway in Missouri.

Baseball/Softball Regional Tournaments
Four tournaments in two classifications wrapped up in Harrison on Saturday.

In the 1A Tournament hosted by Omaha High School at the Equity Bank Sports Complex, Scranton takes both the Baseball and Softball titles. Three area teams will make their way to the 1A State Tournament at Greers Ferry West Side. Jasper, with their second place finish to Scranton in the Baseball Regional final will advance as will both Jasper and Lead Hill in Softball. The Lady Pirates knocked off the Lady Eagles 21-16 in the third place game on Saturday.

Meanwhile in the 3A Tournament hosted in Harrison by Valley Springs High School, the host Lady Tigers were the only area team to advance to state taking third in the Softball Regional 8-7 over Booneville. Booneville won the Baseball Regional Title with Hackett taking the title in Softball.

Harrison High School is the host of the 5A State Baseball and Softball Championships beginning on Thursday.

Softball Districts
Meanwhile, District play began in Missouri for schools that play Spring Softball. Forsyth is the host school for the area Class 2 District and the fourth seeded host Lady Panther squeaked out a 4-3 win over Clever in first round action Friday. The Lady Panthers will take on top-seeded Strafford in semi-finals on Monday. The Lady Indians ended Hollister's season 15-0 on Friday. Marionville and Sparta were the other first round winners and they will match-up in the semi-finals on Monday at 6:00.

Meanwhile in Purdy, the Blue Eye Lady Bulldogs season ended in the Class 1 District as they were outscored by Exeter 12-10.

Regular Season Baseball
An upset took place Saturday in High School Baseball as Hollister notched their sixth win of the season, upending host Forsyth 11-9 in the first of a three game set at Collier Field. The Panthers did rally later in the day to notch their 20th win of the season as they defeated Strafford 5-1. The Indians did hold off Hollister 8-5 in the second of the three game set. This three game set took the place of the scheduled Forsyth Tournament with these three schools the only one that committed to the tournament this season.

Two notes for High School Baseball this week.

First, Branson's home game against Bolivar on Monday will be the second of the two games with the Junior Varsity playing first at 4:30 followed by the Varsity contest around 7:00. A special ceremony honoring the Branson Pirates Baseball Academy players will take place between games.

Second, due to the cancellation of the Forsyth Tournament, there are added games for both Forsyth and Hollister this week. The Tigers will play host to East Newton on Tuesday while the Panthers have added a road game Wednesday at Nevada and on Friday at home to Carthage.
