Young K-9 Officer Bady's Career may end Soon

Bady is a K-9 at the Harrison Police Department; he's young, but his career may end sooner rather than later.

Harrison Police Sargeant Ryan Guffey appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to talk about his K-9 and more; Guffy is Bady's K-9 handler. The highly trained furry officer has a "bulging lower disk" and is on pain medication. Guffey said that that could mean that this year is his partner's last year of work.

Bady is a soon-to-be five-year-old Belgian Malinois; he will turn five this month. Bady performs drug sniffing, house searches and more.

Later, the sergeant talked about how the dogs work. The K-9s usually go into vehicle searches to perform an "air sniff around the vehicle."

K-9s are allowed to sniff around automobiles for drugs. They are taught to sniff the seams of doors.

Dogs often sit or laydown to indicate that they discovered something. They could also raise their tail, or the hair on their back may raise.

These indicators are important beyond the initial moment. Guffey has to write those behaviors down to show the court. More was discussed during the interview.

The full interview with Guffey is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
