Yellville Man Charged in Fatal Crash

A Yellville man with a lengthy criminal history dating back to 1991 has been arrested in connection with a fatal accident that happened this summer.

Being held in the Marion County Detention Center is 53-year-old Shawn Johnson. He is facing multiple charges including negligent homicide.
According to information from the Arkansas State Police, the trooper who worked the accident July 19 concluded his investigation and an arrest warrant was issued for Johnson who was booked into the jail Monday.

Johnson is facing felony charges of negligent homicide, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia along with misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated second offense and reckless driving. His bond is set at $100,000.

The crash claimed the life of 61-year-old Michael A. Alvey of Yellville. The state police report indicates the accident happened when Johnson’s vehicle crossed the centerline and struck Alvey’s vehicle, which caused it to go off the roadway and strike a tree. Johnson was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for treatment of his injuries.

The accident happened on U.S. Highway 62/412 at the eastern city limits of Yellville.

Johnson has been arrested multiple times, mainly in Marion County, dating back to 1991. His past charges include residential burglary, breaking or entering, possession of firearms by certain persons (meaning his is a convicted felon), theft of property, criminal trespass, obstructing governmental operations, resisting arrest and multiple drug charges.
