Wildfire Risk Elevates, Low Water Levels

Photo from Arkansas Department of Agriculture

While the information from the last several weeks from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows no drought in most of Arkansas, the recent lack of rainfall and hot temperatures has elevated the risk of wildfires in much of the state.

According to the latest map from the State Agriculture Department, all but 16 counties now have a Moderate Level for Wildfire Danger. Area counties at that level include Boone, Carroll, Madison, and Newton. Marion and Searcy Counties are among the 16 counties currently remaining at a low level of wildfire danger.

Meanwhile, many area waterways remain at low levels including the Buffalo National River. The latest information from US Geological Survey indicates most areas the Buffalo are either at Low or Low but Floatable Conditions.

While conditions are expected to remain mild, little or no rain is in the forecast for the next week.
