Upcoming Candlelight Vigil for Drug-Abuse Victims, Proclamations and Testimonials

Mike Bishop with the Boone County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition talked Thursday about the coalition's upcoming Candlelight Vigil and more.

Bishop said during KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Tuesday that the vigil is on International Overdose Awareness Day on Aug. 31; the vigil will begin at 7 p.m. on the courthouse lawn's bandstand. Proclamations and testimonials will be delivered.

"We all know the constant battle that we have in all of our communities about drug addiction, drug misuse and the ultimate end of overdose that we face," Bishop said during KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Tuesday. He said many times people who have been impacted by the issue are isolated.

"They're either ashamed to talk about it, or they don't who to talk about it with or where to go," he said. The vigil came about as a way for people to share their grief and be encouraged by the stories of others. Bishop also highlighted a slight increase in these issues because of the last two to two and a half years dealing with COVID-19.

The full interview with Bishop is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
