Tragic Ending to Family Lake Outing when Grandfather Drowns

Details have been released about a drowning Friday evening in Marion County.

A Marion County man, 62-year-old Danny Lane of the Promised Land community, had just finished an outing on Bull Shoals lake with his wife and grandchildren.

Marion County Sheriff Clinton Evans says the incident happened as the family returned to the dock on their pontoon. Lane’s wife said it appeared her husband became light headed when he stood up, causing him to fall. The man fell overboard, between the boat and the dock, went under the water and never resurfaced.

Evans says it was about 20 minutes before first responders were able to make it to the dock in the McCracken Ridge area of the lake. A member of the Oakland Promised Land Fire Department and a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy dove into the water and found Lane under the dock in about eight feet of water. CPR was started but life saving measures were unsuccessful.

Also assisting at the scene were personnel from the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
