Several Thousand People Attend, Watch Online Buffalo National River Meeting

Over 1000 people gather at the Jasper School Cafeteria Thursday night with nearly 2000 more watching online as stakeholders met to hear information on the possibility of changing the Buffalo River Designation from a National River to a National Park Preserve.

Several organizations have come together to look at the possibility of the change citing growing numbers of visitors to the river while many people opposed to the change are fearful that such a designation would eventually lead to more land being acquired by the government to develop the area.

Many in attendance expressed the desire to keep the area as is to protect local landowners and the Buffalo River Watershed.

A link to the video from the meeting can be found on the Newton County Library Facebook Page.
