Several Area Agencies Benefit From Public Safety Grants

Several law enforcement agencies have recently been informed that their applications for grants for the upcoming year have been approved.

According to information from the Arkansas Department of Public Safety, the Public Safety Equipment Grant Program, established by the legislature and Governor Asa Hutchinson in 2021, is awarded to an agency for the purpose of improving trust between Arkansas law enforcement officers and the communities they serve. Agencies applied for the program for the upcoming year during the summer.

The Arkansas Division of Corrections, Game and Fish Commission, Law Enforcement Training Academy, and State Police each received grants ranging from $90,000 to $100,000 to help their agencies. Local agencies receiving awards for 2023 include: 

Bull Shoals Police Dept $20,699.94
Flippin Police Dept $13,497.33
Green Forest Police Dept $33,110.00
Jasper Police Dept $17,999.61
Marion County Government $20,071.83
Newton County Sheriff’s Office $62,673.51

The department's website indicates that the money awarded can be used for improvements in equipment and training to better serve citizens and communities. 

The total awarded statewide for 2023 is over $7 million.
