Senate Committee Meets in Harrison to Discuss Crypto Mining

The Arkansas Senate Committee on Children and Youth gathered at North Arkansas College Monday to hold discussions on crypto mining.

Republican Senator Bryan King of Green Forest, chair of the committee, conducted the meeting which was attended by area residents and several area officials including State Representative Ron McNair and Harrison Mayor Jerry Jackson.

Presentations were made by Harrison City Attorney Nancy Cartwright and Director of Public Works Wade Phillips as well as by representatives of the Crypto Industry. 

A recap of the meeting by the Harrison Daily Times reports that many comments centered around the passage of Acts 819 and 851 and what role of any people in the industry played in passage of the Acts which provides protections and possible tax exemptions to crypto mining and data centers. 

The issue locally relates back to land purchased by Green Digital, LLC in which last year with plans to put a facility which was thought to be on property outside the City of Harrison but later discovered to be inside the City Limits.  

Lawmakers at the meeting stated the intent to try and repeal or amend the law moving forward.
