Rep. Slape Said his Local Government Experience Separates him From Opponents

Arkansas Rep. Keith Slape is running for Senate District 28, and he said Wednesday what sets him apart from his opponents is he holds experience in working as a local official.

Slape discussed his experience and more on KHOZ’s “Around The Table” Wednesday. “I was a local official, worked in local government for a while,” Slape said. He said after working at the state level, he sees both sides of the issue.

Slape was born in Harrison, Arkansas. He was sheriff in Newton County and served for six terms. He said he “had quite an eventful career.” After that, he sought to serve in the Arkansas House; he is his fourth year of service there.

Regarding important issues, Slape mentioned spending, law and order. “We’ve got an issue in the state of Arkansas with our prison system.” He said prisons in the southern part of the state can’t get enough staff.

Slape also said that the courts are backed up. He said he visited some police officers Tuesday who informed Slape that a rape case in which a man pled to six years will do one year in prison for rape. “He’ll be back out on the street,” he said.

The full interview with Slape is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
