Old Federal Building Reopened After Gas Leak

Boone County Tax Collector, Veterans Services, and Assessor offices all reopened on Monday, but not all are back in the Old Federal Building.

A notice from the Boone County Judge’s offices states, “On 1/13/22, an incident at the Old Federal building caused two county employees to be taken to the hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning. Since this unfortunate event took place, we have had several reputable companies come in to inspect the building and none were able to find the source. This has been reported to us as a "freak/abnormal occurrence" as the entire building was inspected and no carbon monoxide was detected. These companies ranged from local professionals here in Boone County all the way to the Chief HVAC inspector for the State of Arkansas.

Thankfully, the two employees are now back to full health, and the proper measures have been taken to be certain this does not happen again. Additionally, we have had discussions with the three offices that are currently housed in the Old Federal building, and they have each made the decision they feel is best for their office and their employees. We have great respect for the Elected Officials and department heads in this county and know they do not make this decision lightly.”

With that inspection done two of the three affected offices opened in their normal location at the Old Federal Building on Monday, January 24th, while the other is also reopened but in a new location.

The Judge’s Office said, “Going forward:

The Boone County Tax Collector's Office will remain in the same location at the Old Federal building. Their office number is 870-741-6646.

The Boone County Veterans Service Office will remain in the same location at the Old Federal building. Their office number is 870-741-3640.

The Boone County Assessor’s Office will now temporarily be located in our Office of Emergency Management building at 400 E. Prospect Avenue in Harrison. You can call the following numbers to reach them: 870-741-3783, 870-391-4537, or 870-741-6233.

If you need to assess you can assess online at boonecountyar.com/assessor. You can also email assessor@boonecountyar.org for assistance. We appreciate the patience the public has shown during this time and hope that these offices can conduct business as usual going forward.”
