Newton County Homecoming Shindig on Sept. 30!

The Newton County Homecoming Shindig will celebrate Newton County on Sept. 30; the county will turn 181 years old, according to Toinette Madison.

Madison appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to talk about the event that begins at about 10 a.m. and lasts for the whole day at the Newton County Fairgrounds. Last year's event included beekeepers, canning and hog butchering and more. Madison said much of what was present at the previous event will reappear this year.

She said an "organic chicken farmer" will have some of his product available at the Saturday event. The farmer will also show the entire chicken processing process.

Madison said a "rabbit guy" may appear. Aside from that, a blacksmith's forger will be there. Attendees can also enjoy archery provided by the Ponca Nature Center.

History lovers can learn from the Newton County Historical Society. In addition to all of this, the event will have live music. Madison said there are "lots more vendors and food vendors this year."

This fall event is the renamed version of last year's Newton County Homecoming Jubilee; it celebrated Newton County turning 180 years old. Madison said that the event went so well that repeating was the desire.
