New City Hall Open for Business on September 8th

New city hall will feature brand new facilities for police, fire, and city offices.

Mayor Jerry Jackson joined KHOZ’s “Around the Table” on Wednesday and discussed the progress being made on the new city headquarters on Industrial Park Road.

Jackson said that the building is full of technology and that, along with other factors has caused some delays in finalizing the project.

“They’re just little things. They’re not costly things but they’re just little things that have to come together,” Jackson said.

However, he was excited to announce an upcoming move-in day. Thursday, September 8^th the new headquarters that will house city hall plus, the police and fire departments will be open to the public.

“We’ll have council meeting that night, committee meeting for the first time,” he said.

Harrison City Hall will close Friday September 2^nd at 5:00 PM and won’t reopen until Thursday September 8^th to give time for the move. That period includes Labor Day on September 5^th, when city offices will be closed anyway.

Jackson also said that on September 22^nd the city will host a grand opening and ribbon cutting at the new facility.

When people enter the new headquarters, they will be met with four windows. One for police, fire, and the water department. The fourth window will be an information window that will be staffed by volunteers. Jackson said they currently have 12 volunteers that will help staff the information desk. They will be able to answer questions and answer phones.

Jackson noted one thing that the new facility will not feature that is currently being done is a drive-thru payment window for the water department. He said that almost 90% of water payments are made online, by mail, or by walk-ins. He said that if there is someone who cannot get out of their vehicle to make their payment they can call and have someone come outside to take it. There will also be an outside drop box for water payments.
