NAEC Warns of a Pair of Phone Scams

North Arkansas Electric Cooperative has received reports of two phone scams reaching members, according to a Facebook post.

In one of the scams, the scammer will threaten disconnection for an outstanding balance unless payment is made immediately.

NAEC states it works with members to keep the power on. The cooperative will mail a notice to members with outstanding balances to outline payment options.

In the second scam, the caller will state a refund is owed for overpaying for electric service. The scammer will ask for debit or credit card information to process the refund. The cooperative states it does not conduct business in that manner. Any credit on an account is reflected on the next month’s statement.

To verify an actual NAEC employee is on the phone, the cooperative suggests hanging up the phone and calling the office at (870)895-3221.

Member service representatives will answer any questions regarding accounts.
