Mike Masterson Continues to Work, Enjoying a 52 Year Career

Mike Masterson is a columnist for The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, and he has no plans to cease working anytime soon.

Masterson appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Monday to discuss his career. He writes three weekly columns for The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and has done so for 22 years. Prior to that, the newsman was an editor for three separate newspapers in the area including those in Fayetteville, Newport and Hot Springs; he has enjoyed 52 years in the newspaper business, including in Chicago and Los Angeles.

He lives in Harrison but said he has gone around the United States. After years outside Harrison, he returned in 2015. Masterson was born and raised in the town, and he said his history is in Harrison.

Masterson works from home now but recalled many days spent in newsrooms. When it comes to his three weekly columns, his opinions aren't popular with everyone.

"There's a particular political persuasion which probably doesn't agree with mine, but I think I'm much more in tune with the people of Arkansas," Masterson said. Later, he revealed that those who disagree with him have informed him that despite the disagreement, they continue reading what he has written.

His opinions aren't limited to politics. He has also written about the Buffalo River. Recently, he has written quite a bit on Pitbulls.

"As long as I can work, I'm going to work," Masterson said. More was discussed on the broadcast.

The full interview with Masterson is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
