Mayor Jackson Gives State of the City Address

Chamber hosted first Eggs and Issues breakfast of the year.

The city of Harrison took center stage at The Harrison Regional Chamber of Commerce’s first Eggs and Issues event of the year. Mayor Jerry Jackson and Chief Financial Officer, Luke Fiegert, gave the State of the City Address to community members that attended.

Fiegert spoke about the financial situation that city is currently in, recent water and sewer rate increases and the receiving COVID-19 related funds. Those funds will go toward new body cameras for the Harrison Police Department, a new ladder truck for the Harrison Fire Department and new parks and recreation projects.

“The city is in a great financial spot right now,” Fiegert said.

Mayor Jackson went through a list of projects that are currently underway throughout the city. As the Mayor went down the list, he spoke about the new Public Safety building being built on Industrial Park Road.

“That’s coming along really well,” he said. “The contractor said we should be in there in April or May [of 2022].”

He went on to show renderings of Creekside community center, photos of newly renovated tennis and basketball courts, new turf on softball and baseball fields, renderings of the splash pad project in partnership with the Rotary Club of Harrison and the city of Harrison and a new adult softball field. He also spoke about new road projects including the project soon to come to Goblin Drive and more. Many projects are currently underway or plan on beginning very soon.

“This is a big, big deal for Harrison,” the Mayor said regarding the turf project. The city will soon see the impact of the turf when several new tournaments come to town as early as March 2022.

As the mayor went through a full list of projects, attendees asked questions and were able to see the full scope of all the projects going on throughout the city.
