Marion County Man Flees Accident, Faces Drug Charges

A Marion County man has been arrested after he fled the scene of a two vehicle accident and authorities found drugs in the vehicle.

According to the probable cause affidavit, upon arrival of the accident scene in front of Dollar General and Highway 62 West in Yellville, deputies made contact with an individual involved in the accident who stated 38-year-old Michael S. Paxton pulled out of the 1889 bank and struck the side of a suburban but then left the scene. The victim stated he had to make Paxton return to the incident scene after he fled towards the HUD housing units.

Contact was made with Paxton who stated he left the scene of the accident because he was nervous about not having a driver’s license. Paxton then denied consent to search the vehicle and the deputy retrieved K9 Rico to conduct a sniff test.

K9 Rico alerted to the odor of narcotics in the front passenger door and a full search of the vehicle was conducted.

Authorities located suspected marijuana and a glass smoking pipe in the front passenger door, as well as a cloth cigarette pack holder containing a glass smoking pipe with white crystal residue, a plastic bag with crystal residue and another small bag containing two dosage units of suspected LSD.

Paxton has been charged with felony counts of possession of a scheduled 1 substance and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia; and misdemeanor counts of leaving the scene of an accident, careless and prohibited driving, driving on a suspended license and no insurance.

Paxton has been released on a $5,000 bond.
