Marion County Man Arrested for Threating Man with Unloaded Rifle

A Marion County man has been arrested 10 months after threatening to shoot a man with what is now known as an unloaded rifle.

In August of last year, deputies were dispatched to a residence in Valley Springs for an ongoing altercation involving someone being threatened with a firearm.

According to the just released probable cause affidavit, while on route to the altercation, dispatch advised all responding deputies the suspect fled the scene in a white vehicle with no license plate number and a flat rear passenger tire.

Deputies located the suspect’s car a few miles away from the residence, unoccupied.

Upon arrival at the residence, deputies contacted the victim who stated 28-year-old Cole Powell walked onto the front porch and started a verbal altercation. The victim stated he told Powell he wanted nothing to do with having a conversation and to stop talking to him.

Powell allegedly shouted obscenities at the victim then proceeded to walk to his car and pulled out a rifle.

The victim said Powell allegedly cocked the rifle, pointed it at the victim’s head and stated he would end his life. Powell then allegedly returned to his vehicle and drove away.

Approximately 15 minutes after the scene was cleared, the victim contacted dispatch stating he found the rifle tossed under a bush next to where Powell’s vehicle was parked.

Deputies confiscated the unloaded rifle and took it in as evidence.

Powell was booked into the Marion County Detention Center June 25. He is free on a $7,500 bond.
