A Conway County man is accused of assaulting a state trooper after being asked to move his vehicle from a highway in Boone County.

Thirty-seven-year-old Craig Dick of Center Ridge is currently in the Boone County Jail and Detention Center, as he also faces drug charges.

According to a probable cause affidavit, an Arkansas state trooper was advised of a pickup truck blocking U.S. Highway 62/412 near Hathcoat Road on Halloween afternoon, and an individual was lying in a ditch. The trooper arrived, and a male subject walked toward his vehicle. The trooper claims he put his hand on the male’s right arm and asked him to move to the front of the patrol unit to avoid getting run over by a passing vehicle, and the male allegedly struck the trooper’s left jaw with his fist.

The trooper says he attempted to bring the male to the ground and was able to get him in handcuffs after grabbing his hair. The trooper alleges during the altercation, his neck was scratched and the top button of his shirt was ripped. The subject reportedly talked about snakes and serpents attacking his legs.

The male was transported to the Boone County Jail and Detention Center, and a jailer reportedly located a back of a crystal substance suspected to be 5 grams of methamphetamine in his right coin pocket.

Dick is charged with furnishing, possessing, using or delivering prohibited articles, second-degree assault, resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated (drugs, first offense), possession of a Schedule I or II drug (methamphetamine or cocaine) and parking on a highway. He has pled not guilty to all counts. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, and he has a jury trial set for Aug. 15.
