Mama JaWanna Music Festival to Spotlight, Celebrate, and Benefit Women

Mama JaWanna Music Festival is coming up on June 10 from to 11 p.m. noon on the Square, according to Susan Boone and Susan Swanson.

Boone and Swanson appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Wednesday to discuss the event. This is the first annual event. Boone said this was conceived from observing that "a lot of ladies are being left out of the festivals around here." She said the festival comes from a desire to spotlight skilled women who have sung in the background.

Boone also credited an article about Hope Cottages as inspiration for the festival. She expressed that it revealed the "purpose" of the event which will benefit Hope Cottages. She added that Swanson said Sanctuary needs to benefit from the community event.

Tickets will go on sale soon at the Lyric Theatre website. The tickets are an extra $5 if they're purchased at the box office.

Aside from that, Boone said the festival will have food and retail vendors. When it comes to sponsors, the event has several. This and more was discussed on the broadcast.

The full interview with Swanson and Boone is available on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
