Local legislators sworn into office

Yesterday was the first day of the 94th General Assembly of the State Arkansas. All representatives and senators of the state were sworn into office at the Arkansas State Capitol in Little Rock.

For the local area that includes:

Senator Scott Flippo was first elected to the Arkansas Senate in 2014. He represents the newly formed district 23 which includes the eastern half of Boone County and extends beyond Mt. Home. Flippo defeated Democrat Derek Huber with 79.9% of the vote to secure reelection.

Senator Bryan King is back in the Arkansas Senate after being defeated in the 2018 republican primary by Senator Bob Ballinger. In 2022 King defeated Ballinger, securing the republican nomination before defeating democrat Jim Wallace in the general election with 76% of the vote. He represents District 28 which covers the western half of Boone County, all of Madison and Carrol Counties, as well as portions of Newton, Johnson and Franklin Counties. King’s public service dates to 2006 when he was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives where he served three terms before being elected to the Senate for the first time in 2012.

Representative Ron McNair has been a member of the Arkansas House of Representatives since 2015 and represents District 5 which covers the southern portion of Boone County. McNair defeated Independent Jim Hall with 82.4% of the vote.

Representative Harlan Breaux represents district six which covers the northern half of Boone County as well as a major portion of Carrol County. Breaux defeated democrat Markeeta Tucker and Libertarian Dakota Logan in the general election with 65.5% of the vote. Breaux was first elected to the Arkansas House in 2018 and is beginning his third term as a representative.
