Kirkpatrick Talks Shipping Wars and County Office Search

Woodland's steeple featured on A&E reality show, Boone County Courthouse without heat and in need of a new home for county offices.

Boone County Quorum Court member Heath Kirkpatrick was the featured guest on KHOZ’s “Around the Table” on Monday. Kirkpatrick is also the minister at Woodland Baptist Church in Harrison and was featured on an episode of A&E’s Shipping Wars.

The show follows independent truck drivers that haul unusual items. When Woodland removed the steeple from their building, they found a buyer in Oklahoma. The show contacted them to do an episode about hauling the steeple.

Kirkpatrick said he was pleased with how Harrison was portrayed in the show, but that the producers of the show changed and made up a lot of the story line behind the steeple’s new owner.

“For me, they left the best part on the floor,” Kirkpatrick said, “I thought they’d let us unpack the story.”

He went on to say that he didn’t really want to get rid of the steeple, but ongoing maintenance problems caused them to take it down. The Steeple is now a prop at a venue in Tahlequah, Oklahoma being used for weddings.

The episode was the 9th episode of season 9 of Shipping Wars on A&E

Kirkpatrick also mentioned the ongoing building search for county offices saying that the main prospect right now is another church building in town that will offer plenty of space but if it will actually be offered for sale to the county is still being determined.

“That’s a possibility, but the thing is it would need some remodeling,” Kirkpatrick said, “but it’s the number one prospect right now.”

Other sources in the county have indicated that the church building in consideration is the First Presbyterian Church at the corner of Arbor Drive and Capps Road in Harrison.

Meanwhile there is still no heat in the Boone County Courthouse. Estimates to replace the boiler are about $4,000. Kirkpatrick and the rest of the court are reluctant to make that investment while trying to find a new home for the county. For now, the county offices in the courthouse are making do with electric space heaters.

The Boone County Quorum Court is set to meet tonight at 6:00 PM at the Office of Emergency Management Building.
