Iron Ranger Challenge In Arkansas

Healthy Parks Healthy People is grounded on the idea that parks can be gateways to good heath, for people and for the planet.

To further this idea the National Park Service holds the Iron Ranger Challenge every year to encourage others to put a spotlight on the role of parks as a social determinant of health.

This marks the marks the sixth consecutive year for the Iron Ranger Challenge. To become eligible to be an Iron Ranger, you must complete 100 miles of physical activity on any public lands within the state of Arkansas. This means any activity done in an Arkansas National Park, State Park, Game and Fish Commission Lands, or any city park can be counted.

Activities should be self-propelled such as walking, hiking, running, biking, swimming or paddling to count towards the goal.

A certificate and commemorative patch will be mailed out monthly to participants who complete the challenge. This year’s Iron Ranger patch is a bit different than the previous years designs. 2021 marks the 100-year anniversary of Hot Springs National Park being recognized as a national park, so to commemorate the historic event, the patch is designed to celebrate that milestone.

Completed mileage logs must be turned in by Jan. 31, 2022 to count towards this years run.
