House District 6 Candidate Brian Ayers Highlighted Farming and Education Issues

Arkansas House District 6 candidate Brian Ayers said Monday he’s running because people who encouraged him to run did so because they were looking for another choice in the race.

He discussed his reason for running and important issues on KHOZ’s “Around The Table” on Monday. “They liked the fact that I’ve had some agriculture background and also that I’ve been on the school board in Green Forest for six years, a couple years as president,” Ayers said. He ran a farm before seeking office.

“There’s, in this area especially, a lot of agriculture out there, and they wanted somebody that knew, you know, from the ground up what it was to be a farmer, how much work it took and how much it played a part in our economy,” he said. He said his experience in education was also a factor, but he also said some of the biggest issues facing Arkansas farmers include what farmers are paid versus what consumers pay in the market.

“It just seems like something’s missing there between the supermarket and the farmer,” Ayers said. He said he would like to find out why that is. Aside from farming, Ayers also highlighted education issues.

“It doesn’t seem like there’s enough for that student that doesn’t want to go to college.” While he said he thinks it’s “great” that there are scholarships and opportunities for students going to college, he added that there are a lot of students who don’t go to college.

“We need those kids in our local towns to do things that aren’t getting done. For instance, plumbers, carpenters, electricians, welders, you know the list goes on and on and on.” Ayers also mentioned culinary skills among the list. The candidate also discussed his stance on abortion.

“I’m definitely pro-life,” Ayers said. He said, “I really hate to see an abortion happen.” As far as exceptions where abortion should be allowed, he said, “I think that’s something that’s going to have to come between God, the doctor and the parents to make a decision.”

The full interview with Ayers is on the “Around The Table” Facebook Page.
