Homecoming Event for Miss Arkansas, Ebony Mitchell

Miss Arkansas will be at the Durand Center for a homecoming celebration later this month!

Harrison Arkansas native Ebony Mitchell made history recently being named the first Miss Arkansas that graduated from Harrison High School. She was one of 45 contestants and competed as Miss Dogwood. Organizers have set up a homecoming celebration for her later this month.

On July 23rd at 2:00 PM Mitchell will be at the L.E. Gene Durand Center and welcomes the public to stop by and see her.

Mitchell will be competing in the Miss America Pageant later this year in Connecticut. Three Miss Arkansas winners have won Miss America in the pageant’s history. The most recent came in 2017 when Savvy Shields, from Fayetteville, won after winning Miss Arkansas as Miss Heart of the Ozarks.

A Miss Arkansas winner also won Miss America in 1964 (Donna Axum) and in 1982 (Elizabeth Ward).

Mitchell joined KHOZ’s Around the Table program to celebrate her victory and said that she’s had a chance to meet some of the other state winner who will be competing for the national title and said the competition is fierce.

She also said that statistics show that a child has a better chance of competing in the Superbowl than competing for Miss America.
