Harrison Man in Trouble for Filing False Report

A Harrison man is facing a felony charge after filing a false report for stolen tools at a worksite.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on July 21, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office responded to a breaking or entering call at a vacant residence along U.S. Highway 65 where property had allegedly been stolen.

Upon arrival, the complainants stated they had tools stolen from inside the residence they were remodeling. Deputies took statements from both men and ran their information through dispatch.

Dispatch advised deputies they were unable to get return information for one of the men. In the statement, the information he provided did not match the date of birth he told deputies. The man, later identified as 49-year-old Clark Winslow Gordon of Harrison, told authorities he worked for Pace Industries. Deputies contacted Human Resources at Pace, where they confirmed no such person was employed there.

While en route to the Boone County Detention Center, Gordon told deputies his real name. Dispatch returned active warrants for Gordon out of the Harrison Police Department and Green Forest Police Department.

During the investigation, deputies learned Gordon was the last person at the residence the previous day and stated the second complainant left before him. Gordon told authorities “he would never steal from a working man.”

Investigators met with Gordon’s girlfriend, who gave written consent to search the apartment. She directed deputies to the bedroom where Gordon stores his tools, but none of the stolen tools were to be found. She then led deputies to kitchen cabinets where some tools were stored and located several power tools with the complainant’s name on them. He positively identified a bucket containing screws, nails, a hammer, a tape measure and power tools.

Gordon continued to deny had taken the man’s tools. Investigators believe Gordon filed a report on his stolen tools to conceal the stolen items.

Gordon faces one felony count of filing a false report with a law enforcement agency and two misdemeanor counts of theft of property and obstructing governmental operations. He is currently held in the Boone County Detention Center on $2,500 bond.
