A Harrison man has been charged with residential burglary after violating a protection order.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the Harrison Police Department responded on Nov. 16 to a report of a male, identified as 31-year-old Joseph Martin, trying to force his way into a home.

Earlier in the day officers visited the residence for a report of Martin violating a protection order. When they arrived, Martin left the scene and officers were unable to locate him. The victim told officers she had a protection order against Martin and stated due to previous altercations with him, the back door did not lock. She told officers she put a dryer against the door to keep it shut.

The victim reported she went to the house to gather some clothes after Martin violated the protection order earlier in the day. While gathering some of her belongings, Martin allegedly started to force his way through the back door which led to the second confrontation between the two.

Martin left the residence to avoid authorities but returned later when he was apprehended by officers.

Martin was eventually taken to the Boone County Detention Center where he was booked on a felony count of residential burglary and misdemeanor counts of violation of a protection order, 3rd degree domestic battery, 1st degree criminal mischief and theft of property.
He has been released on a $25,000 bond.
