The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Mountain Home Project Office is offering 50 fish cover permits for Bull Shoals and Norfork Lakes.
The permit applications are available for pick up at the Mountain Home Project Office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
All applications are due by Jan. 10.
The applications may be mailed to the Mountain Home Project Office, 324 West Seventh Street, Mountain Home, AR 72653, ATTN: Fish Cover Permits, but must be postmarked no later than Jan. 4 and be received at the Mountain Home Project Office by Jan. 10. A drawing will be held on Jan. 11, and those selected will be contacted on the day of the drawing.
A fish cover permit allows an individual to cut up to six cedar trees, which can be up to 6 inches in diameter at the stump, from designated areas of the shoreline. Individuals may pick up dead trees or branches along the shore and sink them into the lake for fish habitat as well.
USACE says many of the best fishing locations on Bull Shoals and Norfork lakes are over brush piles that attract and hold various species of fish. Added cover to the lake provides a breeding ground for young fish as well as bait fish.
