Drug Take-back is Coming up

Dan Dillard from the Boone County Substance Misuse Prevention Coalition said Tuesday that the drug takeback event draws near.

Dillard appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to discuss the event and more. It's on Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event won't be held in the Harrison Ozark Crossing Mall's parking lot this year.

Instead, Dillard said the drug takeback will be located at the brand-new Harrison City Hall. This is the time to return any unused or expired prescription drugs. "We'll take over-the-counter drugs, but again the emphasis is the prescription drugs because of their potency, the potency that we see in those," Dillard said. Pet meds can be returned as well.

In addition, Dillard said drug deactivation kits will be offered. He said these kits can be used in between the semi-annual takeback events; they will "chemically neutralize" the pills rendering them safe for disposal in the trash. Dillard also discussed permanent takeback boxes located in Harrison.

These are available all year. One is present in Harrison's City Hall; another is in the Boone County Sheriff's Department. Boone County has four of these boxes.

The full interview with Dillard is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
