Coming up: Harrison Youth Triathlon

The Harrison Youth Triathlon is coming up on July 21; registration is open now.

Daniel Fornes appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Wednesday to talk about the race. The multi-day event is free to any child who wants to participate. There are six weeks of training that begin on June 9. Training occurs on Sunday afternoon with the expectation that training is done at home.

Fornes said that kids who finish the six weeks, Fornes said they receive a new bike for free. Then they can use the bike awarded to them for the final race on week seven.

He and his wife are passionate about physical fitness and have a desire to motivate local children to stay active in the face of electronics during the summer.

"Why not get them outside, enjoy the summer and have something to look forward to?" he asked. Fornes noted that kids can also choose to just participate in race day but won't get a new bike. Additional information and registration are online. More was discussed on the broadcast.

The full interview with Fornes is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
