Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) of North Arkansas is a nonprofit organization that trains people to represent foster care children in court.
Becky Greenwood is CASA's board of directors president. She appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Tuesday to talk about CASA. The advocates are judge-appointed volunteers who are trained to carry out their duties.
Greenwood said each advocate is tasked with representing one child; they build relationships with the foster care residents. One of the ways this is done is through visits to foster homes or otherwise.
She said the end goal, if possible, is "reunification" with the home from which they were removed. Later, the board president praised the volunteers as the people who power the program.
CASA is in constant need of volunteers. Training is required to volunteer.
