Boone County Regional Airport to Get New Signage

The Boone County Regional Airport is moving a project planned for the future up a few years in order to use money that expires this year.

Airport Manager Judy McCutcheon told the airport board that $90,000 they have banked will expire in 2022. The money was originally going to go toward a terminal remodel that the airport had planned to start the design process on this year but with the prospect of new federal funding that could allow them to build a brand-new terminal that project has been put on hold for now.

Another project that the airport had planned to tackle in 2026 was replacing airfield signage. The project will replace signs on the runways, update the lighting on those signs to LED while also replacing the windsock and installing a new beacon. McCutcheon says the project is expected to cost between $350,000 to $400,000.

“Our plan now is to go ahead and do the airfield signage update in 2022 as we have banked funds that will expire this year and we don’t want to lose that funding,” said McCutcheon.

The $90,000 that will expire along with a portion of an additional $560,000 the airport has banked will be used to cover the cost of the project.
