Harrison, AR, July 14, 2022 — The Boone County Regional Airport (HRO) has been notified that it will receive a portion of the Biden Administration’s nearly $1,000,000,000 for airport improvements designated to expand and upgrade aviation terminals and facilities across the nation. HRO will use their $299,250 to install and upgrade the airfield’s lighting system.

Airport Manager Judy McCutcheon said, “We’re very pleased that the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) saw fit to award this grant following our application for a portion of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funds. The dollars will be used to install new runway and taxi lighting and signage across the airfield, improving HRO for inbound and outbound aircraft alike.”

“This is another aspect of Boone County’s growth,” said County Judge Robert Hathaway, continuing, “Our airport was one of 19 Arkansas projects receiving this grant money and it’ll be used to increase the value of our infrastructure for our business and tourism industries.”

Bob Largent, President/CEO of the Harrison Regional Chamber of Commerce, noted, “This is another win for the Harrison-Boone County community and will add to the already important Boone County Airport and its potential to host additional business facilities bringing prosperity to the community. We appreciate the close relationship the Chamber has with Judy and the HRO team as we work together to take care of business.”

McCutcheon indicated that the funds should be received within weeks and that construction should begin shortly thereafter.
