Boone County Observance of National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer is on May 2.

Mike Bishop appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Tuesday to talk about it. It's his ninth year chairing or cochairing the day's observance committee in Boone County. This year's observance will happen at 6 p.m. in the Signature Bank's Community Room, (Duran Center). Bruce Haynes, pastor of New Life Temple in Hollister, Missouri, will deliver the keynote speech.

The focus of the prayer is the nation, federal and local government leaders and other ministries in the county. Boone County The observance lasts about an hour.

Bishop acknowledged that prayer is important every day for individuals. On this day, the emphasis is different.

He explained the roots of the National Day of Prayer. It goes back to the First Continental Congress. It's highlighted more than it was then. The 13 colonies were called to prayer during the Revolutionary War.

Bishop added that George Washington issued a call to pray three times, once as president and twice as a general. The first official National Day of Prayer as it's observed currently occurred in 1988. More was discussed on the broadcast.

The full interview with Bishop is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
