Boone County Man Faces Charges of Assault on Family Member

A  Boone County man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting his father in two separate incidents.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on June 13 the Boone County Sheriff’s Office first responded to a residence on along North Denver Street in Alpena for a report of a disturbance.

Upon arrival, the victim stated his son, identified as 35-year-old Kevin McGehee, had been drinking all day in his front yard when they began having a discussion about McGehee bringing unknown people to the residence and drinking at all hours of the night. The victim told him he wanted it to stop and McGehee needed to move out.

McGehee allegedly got angry and told the victim it was his property and he could do whatever he wanted. The victim told authorities McGehee allegedly branded a knife and advanced towards him. While swinging it he allegedly said “he could cut his throat any time he wanted to.” The victim said he kept backing up as McGehee continued to move towards him with the knife.

Before deputies arrived, the victim stated McGehee got into the passenger side of his girlfriend’s truck where they fled towards Carroll County. After leaving the residence, the victim told deputies McGehee called him and said he was going to “slash the tires on his vehicle during the night”.

The following day, deputies received another report from the victim stating McGehee had returned to his residence and began making threats towards him, stating he would slit his tires before leaving. While on the phone with dispatch, the victim stated McGehee returned to the residence and started screaming and kicking the garage door. The victim also informed dispatch McGehee was on the phone with someone, stating he wanted the victim “permanently taken care of.”

Upon arrival, deputies were able to detain McGehee without incident. The victim told authorities McGehee came into his house and tried to break into the garage. He stated a camera was on the outside of the garage but was allegedly torn down by McGehee. Photos were provided to deputies where they observed McGehee looking up at the camera with a hammer in his hand.

McGehee told deputies just prior to the incident he dropped off his 5-year-old son at a neighbor’s house who is not a family member or legal guardian. Authorities took the child back to his residence.

McGehee is facing felony charges of terrorist threatening and two felony counts of assault on a family or household member. He also faces misdemeanor charges of terrorist threatening in the second degree, criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a minor. McGehee is currently being held in the Boone County Detention Center.
