Arrests Made in Bellefonte Storage Thefts

Two Boone County residents have been charged with two felony counts of commercial burglary amongst multiple other charges, including possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

In October, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office was performing a property check at Myers Storage units in Bellefonte due to numerous thefts reported there. Officers made contact with 45-year-old Charles Seagraves and 39-year-old Gloria Ford and asked if they were the owners of the unit, which both said yes. Because of the amount of thefts in the area, they were asked for the lock and key. Ford proceeded to look for the lock and when Seagraves was asked what number the unit was, he could not provide the information.

Officers had dispatch call the owner of Myers Storage to confirm if Seagraves and Ford were the owners of the unit. While waiting, Seagraves told law enforcement he must not have brought the lock with them. Both Ford and Seagraves were asked again who the unit was registered to, and neither one could answer. Seagraves stated he had a unit elsewhere.

The owner of the storage facility told authorities the owner of the unit was not either one of the suspects in custody and it had belonged to someone who had recently experienced a theft and was unable to come to the unit to clean up what remained due to an illness.

While items were being seized from the vehicle, two pouches were found near the rear seat, both containing drug paraphernalia and suspected methamphetamine, which were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for further testing.

Seagraves and Ford were charged with two felony counts of commercial burglary, one felony count of breaking or entering, one felony count of possession of methamphetamine, one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia, and a misdemeanor count of theft of property under $1000. Seagraves was also listed with a sentence enhancement of habitual offender.

Both Seagraves and Ford were released from the Boone County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
