Agriculture Week and Changes in Farming

National Agriculture Week is from March 17 to March 23.

Nick Simon and Jim Harp from the Farm Bureau Federation appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Thursday to talk about the week and more. They are attempting to create buzz around the organization and agriculture in general.

Harp explained that the Farm Bureau Federation aims to promote agricultural efforts and interests. The two guests talked about the changes in farming that have occurred over the years. Technological progress has changed farming for better and worse.

While foods are produced faster and in greater quantity, there are downsides. One of those downsides is the lack of people in farming.

Both guests highlighted the changes. Harp said in 1900 about half of the population worked to provide food for the other half. "By the year 2000, it was 92% eating, 8% feeding them, and now we are under 2%. Less than 2% of the people are involved in agriculture.

The Farm Bureau office is available by phone at 870-741-3488. More was discussed during the broadcast.

The full interview with Harp and Simon is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
