6 areas of north central Arkansas ranked among state’s 8 coldest places

An online publication claiming to educate the world to better care for the planet and the species occupying it has released an article ranking the eight coldest locations in Arkansas. The list announced by A-Z Animals, based on an analysis of average temperature trends in the state, utilizing data generated by the National Centers for Environmental Information, includes six areas of north central Arkansas.

Baxter County is considered the eighth-coldest place in the Natural State. With elevations ranging from 800 to 1,400 feet, the average low temperature in the county during the month of January is around 19 degrees.

Newton County is at No. 6 with elevations ranging from 700 to over 2000 feet. According to A-Z Animals, the county hosts a mountainous terrain responsible for its cold surges, especially during winter. Temperatures in January may range from about 25 to 43 degrees.
