Bergman, Marshall Fall in State Championship Tilts

Two area schools take home Second Place Trophies from the Arkansas High School State Basketball Championships.

The final game of the championship series in Hot Springs was one of the best but didn't end in a way Bergman Panther fans had hoped for as a team they had beaten in the regular season turns the tables in the 3A Championship Game as Manila took home an overtime win 61-57. The game was close throughout as the Panthers led at the end of both the first and second quarters with the Lions having a slight advantage at the end of three quarters. The game was tied at 50 after regulation before the Lions grabbed the advantage and took home the state title. The Panthers finish their season with a 38-6 record.

Earlier in the day, the Marshall Bobcats also finished second in their tournament, dropping a 59-44 decision to the Bigelow Panthers. Marshall, who has lost to Bigelow earlier in the 2A Regional Tournament, kept this game close and was tied with the Panthers at the end of three quarters before the Lions surged to a 20-5 run to end the game and claim the title. Marshall finishes their season with a 27-9 record.
