Woodland Heights Baptist Church Sponsoring a Recovery House

Woodland Heights Baptist Church is sponsoring a recovery house that's called "The Woodshed," according to Pastor Heath Kirkpatrick.

Kirkpatrick appeared with Rob Willis on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to discuss the new ministry. Recovery ministry, the pastor said, is "something God has laid on our hearts."  The pastors have collaborated to build the program. Willis has a past of a lot of experience with addiction.

Willis said he spent time in five treatment centers and Teen Challenge. Kirkpatrick revealed that a friend of his died after dealing with addiction. That friend left money for Woodland Heights, and that money is being used for the center. The church will close on the house on Oct. 1.

Kirkpatrick explained that the name of the center reflects its mission. It's actually "a place of discovery." He said he learned that musicians use the word in reference to finishing their songs and exercise creativity; he added that it's used in academia as well.

Willis shared about he found that was missing. He said his "sin nature" was the problem. He explained that other programs treat symptoms but not the real problem. "At the root of all of it, it's a heart issue."

The solution was a relationship with Jesus Christ. He said he knew about God but did not know him and didn't understand the Gospel.

"So, discovery is, you need to be born again, and that's the discovery side of recovery," Willis said. More was discussed on the broadcast. The full interview with Willis and Kirkpatrick is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
