Woman Arrested For Breaking and Entering, Assault in Marion County

A Marion County woman is jailed on a $20,000 bond after she allegedly broke in to a home and assaulted two children she found in the residence.

Twenty-six-year-old Courtney Gayle Stude is charged with residential burglary and two counts of second-degree battery following the incident on July 30.

According to a probable cause affidavit from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Stude had been seen sitting across from the victims’ residence on Seawell Avenue.

The mother of the children left the residence to run to a grocery store a few blocks away, leaving the children – ages 11 and 12 – at the home. When the mother left the residence, Stude allegedly began beating on the back door and screaming to let her in.

The children became frightened at the point and armed themselves with metal spoons from the kitchen. The banging on the door stopped at that point, but Stude then kicked the door in and the children fled to a bedroom.

Stude allegedly grabbed one of the children by the ankle at that point, with the other child defending its sibling by striking Stude on her hands with the metal spoon, which authorities described as a soup ladle. Stude turned her ire to the second child and grabbed the pre-teen by the hair and neck. The first child then began striking Stude with its spoon, forcing Stude to leave the room.

Stude kicked in the door of the mother’s room, took an item and left the residence.

Authorities responding to the scene found Stude walking down the streak, carrying a rock. The deputy got out of his cruiser and the woman dropped the rock. WHen asked what had happened, Stude allegedly replied, “she was concerned about things happening around her.” After repeating that statement several times, Stude denied entering the home and assaulting the children.

The deputy examined both children, finding red marks on one of the child’s ankles and a red, raised area on the neck of the other child, along with scratch marks. Authorities then asked to see Stude’s hands, with knuckles on both hands being bright red. Stude was arrested at that point.

The affidavit states the mother knew Stude’s sister and Stude had come to the home the previous day uninvited. She was later made to leave at that time by a third party.
