Square Dancing Class on Saturday

Camp Jack will host square dancers on Jan. 6.

Jim and Shirley Christenson appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to discuss square dancing. Camp Jack will host them on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. as they teach a class. They are from Iowa and have square danced for 40 years.

Shirley said that their dancing history goes back to Jim being an "old-time fiddler." They began hitting the square dance floor through Jim learning to fiddle.

He and Shirley would attend square dances where he would record the music to learn it later. They were informed that they couldn't remain spectators.

"But the people there said, 'You can't sit here. You have to get up and move and dance,'" Shirley said. She added that they "learned to love it."

Now, they teach square dancing classes; Jim said they teach square dancing one time every month or two. Anyone wanting information on square dance or fiddle classes can call or text Shirley at 870-688-0707. More was discussed on the broadcast.

The full interview with the Christensons is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
