Searcy County Man Faces Charges of Firearm Possession, Domestic Battery

An Oxley man has been charges with possessing a firearm and domestic battery after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in a domestic dispute.

According to the Searcy County Sheriff’s Office, deputies dispatched to a residence in response to a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, the victim told law enforcement officials her boyfriend, identified as Norman Simmons, had hit her in the head and broken a window in her home. She also stated Simmons was a felon, had a handgun, and was locked inside her residence.

Deputies forced entry into the residence and was unable to find Simmons in the home. The Marshall Police K-9 assisted and cleared the residence.

Simmons was seen approximately 100 yards from the residence in a wooded location. He was arrested and taken into custody. The handgun was located and taken into custody by law enforcement.

Simmons was transported to the Searcy County Detention Center where he was charged with possession of firearms by certain persons, criminal mischief, domestic battery, and being a habitual offender. Simmons, who has a lengthy criminal history associated with violence, is a convicted felon currently on parole.
