A new bill has reached the legislature which would require overdose rescue kits to be located on each public high school and college campuses.
HB1514, sponsored by Representative Tara Shephard, states the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education should collaborate with the Department of Health to ensure each public high school campus in the State of Arkansas has an overdose rescue kit on an affixed wall mount, clearly visible and labeled with the words “Overdose Rescue Kit — Narcan Nasal Spray” or other language approved by the division.
The bill states each kit should be visually free of advertisements; located where it is readily available for public use; and should include, without limitation, Narcan, Naloxone or another medication approved by the Department of Health and the United States Food and Drug Administration that when administered negates or neutralizes the pharmacological effects of an opioid in the human body.
